Too Old for Birthday Parties

David Farr

Little Eddie blew out the last of his birthday candles.

Thirteen years old.

A man now, in his eyes.

His mother leaned down, gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Happy Birthday, Eddie,” she said.

He shot her serious look and said, “I’m too old for that name, Mama. It’s Edward now.”
